Your nonprofit can design the AI your community actually needs— and own it.

We help your team become architects of your own AI, not just users of it. We design real software products alongside your staff — intake and case management tools, data dashboards, whatever your work needs — and leave you able to make the next one without us.

The idea

kiu means bridge. Most AI shows up as something you rent and can't change. We help your team cross to software your staff designs, your organization owns, and anyone here can keep improving after we've gone.

The status quo

Most AI help leaves you dependent.

A vendor sells you software you can't change. A consulting firm makes something for you, then leaves with everything they learned. A guest speaker does an hour on prompting and wishes you luck. None of it leaves your team any more capable than before.

Our approach

We design it sitting alongside your staff, showing them every step.

When the project ends, your staff can adjust the software themselves — change the wording, add a feature, point it at a new problem. We've done our job when your team doesn't need us for the next one.

Who's behind it

We're from the nonprofit world. We know the highs and lows.

Kiu Labs is led by nonprofit professionals and former government staff — people who've run programs, managed operations, and raised the funds to keep them going. We're not technologists looking for a sector to sell into.

We understand the caseloads, the reporting requirements, and the budget cycles, because we've lived inside them. So we design with your community, not just for it.

In practice

It starts with a real problem.

An intensive case management program came to us knowing AI could help — they just didn't know where. Their case managers were losing hours helping people with limited English navigate basic forms and applications, when they wanted that time to help them build skills, confidence, and goals. We ran a workshop with their staff, found the bottleneck together, and designed a secure, bilingual, and user-friendly app to streamline the experience — shaped by the people who'd use it, and now in testing with the community it was made for.

Then others noticed. Different teams, other programs, and community members began asking for the same kind of help, without being sold on it. That unsolicited demand is the hardest signal to manufacture — and the clearest evidence we have that the gap is real.

A bilingual career assistant

Guides job seekers to career-ready in their own language — by typing or speaking, with full speech-to-text and text-to-speech.

A program-design facilitator

Guides a team through designing a whole new program — from problem statement to ideation, logic model, and evaluation framework.

A program-data dashboard

Brings your own program data together with public data, so a team can see what's really happening and act on it.

Illustrative, not screenshots — we'll walk you through the real software when we talk.

What stays with you

Capability that doesn't leave when we do.

You own it.

The software your team designs — and the know-how behind it — is yours. Keep it for your own use, share it free with the sector, or license it to peers and earn from it.

Your staff stay in charge.

The software takes the repetitive load off your staff so they have more time for the work only people can do.

Safe by design.

Data privacy and environmental sustainability are built in from the first sketch — because you're accountable to the people this serves, and so are we.
